PVC pipe max temp

PVC pipe max temp tolerance can reach 150℃. ‌The high-temperature resistance of PVC pipe depends on its type and whether it has been specially treated. Ordinary PVC pipes begin to soften at a temperature of about 80°C. When the temperature reaches 100°C, they soften and deform significantly, and may even fuse. However, through modification, such as adding high-temperature stabilizers and high-temperature plasticizers, the high-temperature resistance of PVC pipes can be significantly improved. Modified PVC pipes can generally withstand temperatures up to 120°C, while reinforced PVC pipes, through steel wire reinforcement or glass fiber reinforcement, have better tolerance and can generally withstand temperatures up to 150°C, making them suitable for some high-temperature industries. application under the circumstances.

How is PVC pipe affected by temperature?‌

‌Heat resistance‌: The heat resistance of PVC is generally 65-70℃, but this range will be affected by the ambient temperature, usage time, and heating method. For example, if PVC is exposed to a higher temperature environment, the movement between its molecules will accelerate, which may lead to thermal decomposition and thus reduce heat resistance. In addition, if used in a high-temperature environment for a long time, the thermal decomposition process inside PVC may be accelerated, further reducing its heat resistance. Different heating methods will also have an impact on the heat resistance of PVC. For example, slow heating can give PVC more time to adjust its internal structure than rapid heating, which may improve its heat resistance.

‌Low-temperature resistance‌: PVC pipes may become brittle, hard, brittle, and cracked in environments below -10°C. This is because low temperature limits the movement of PVC molecular chains, making the material more brittle. Therefore, in low-temperature environments, the performance of PVC pipes will be affected and become fragile.

What effect does temperature have on PVC pipes?‌

1‌. Temperature resistance‌: The temperature resistance of PVC pipes is directly affected by temperature. Generally speaking, the maximum temperature that PVC pipes can withstand is 60°C. Within this temperature range, PVC pipes can maintain good elasticity and mechanical properties and are not easy to deform or break. However, when the temperature exceeds 80°C, PVC pipes may deform, expand, or even rupture. Rigid PVC pipes can withstand temperatures up to 70°C, while soft PVC pipes can withstand temperatures up to 55°C. When exposed to temperatures above 90°C for a long time, PVC pipes will begin to decompose slightly, release gas, and dissolve in water, which is harmful to humans and will accelerate the aging and lifespan of PVC pipes.

2‌. Dimensional changes‌: Changes in temperature can cause slight changes in the size of PVC pipes, most notably in the length of the pipe. Generally speaking, the change in length of pipe per 30 meters is approximately 3.8 inches for every 12°C rise, a rule that is typical of PVC pipes regardless of diameter.

3‌. Pressure Capacity‌: As temperature increases, the pressure capacity of PVC decreases from a baseline of 73 degrees. For example, if PVC pipe has a baseline pressure capacity of 400 PSI at 73 degrees Fahrenheit, its pressure capacity at 110 degrees will be reduced to 200 PSI‌4.

4.‌ Other factors‌: In addition to the material and structural differences of the PVC pipe itself, factors such as the pressure in high-temperature environments, the installation method of the PVC pipe, and environmental conditions will also affect its high-temperature resistance. Under the combined action of high temperature and high pressure, the resistance of PVC pipes will further decrease. If the PVC pipe is improperly installed and there are problems such as weak interfaces, its ability to withstand high temperature environments will also be affected to a certain extent.‌
